Remember that not all risks are visible to us. Some students, especially teenage girls, are low self-disclosing - they may mask what they’re thinking and feeling.
Just look at what this teacher said…
"We thought the STEER assessment had made a mistake flagging a particular student. But, prompted, we did some digging and uncovered a serious safeguarding risk we weren't aware of."
If a student is flagged, be careful not to dismiss what might be an early warning. This student may need your support, but may not know how to tell or show you.
Remember, if you don’t write an action plan, record how you will actively monitor the student instead.
