Wonde student data is automatically updated on STEER once a week. We will add new students, update existing students but never delete students. Auto-syncing is switched on by default, but can be paused if you prefer. We'll inform you via email if anything goes wrong.

Why don't school leavers get automatically deleted when we automatically sync?
When a student is deleted from STEER, all their historical data is lost. You can imagine how annoying it would be if it happened automatically by mistake! Additionally, Wonde don't actually tell us when a student leaves, we simply don't see their data in the next import. That can happen for a variety of reasons, so deleting the student wouldn't be a good idea.

Why isn't our data updating?
Okay, so you've made an update on your MIS that isn't being reflected on STEER. Here are a few simple explanations to check first:
β Not enough time has passed
We sync your data once a week. Take a look at your update history to see when we last synced. You can trigger the sync yourself using the "Sync Now". Wait up to 5 minutes for your new data to appear.
β Is there an auto-sync error?
Check your auto-sync controls to see if an error is flagged. These can be student specific or general.
ποΈ Are you expecting data to be removed or a student deleted?
As a general rule, we only update or add new data. So if you have removed data/students from your MIS or limited STEER's access via Wonde, it won't be removed from STEER automatically. In this case, please reach out to us for support.
None of the above? Here's how to trouble shoot the issue:
π’ If you are missing specific data types:
We can only add data which you have given us permission to access on Wonde. So, it's worth checking if we actually have permission to access the data type you are expecting and switching it on if we don't. Read how.
If you are missing "House" then check your Import Settings to make sure it isn't switched to "No House" or a house type which you don't use. If you are missing email, then check the same settings page to make sure you have chosen to import it.
If it's neither of those, then it's time to reach out to us for support. Let us know any investigations you have already done.
π€ If you are missing specific students:
Assuming that this student doesn't have an error (we'll alert of this via email and on the data management page), there are a couple of other possible causes.
Firstly, is it possible that these student has been switched off in Wonde Access Control? Read how to check.
Another explanation is that the students are in a year group which your school has chosen not to import. You can check this on your Import Settings.
If it's none of those, then it's time to reach out to us for support. Let us know any investigations you have already done.
The datatypes aren't what we expected
In the majority of cases, this is due to your Wonde permissions. We add the data which you have given us permission to access on Wonde. So, it's worth checking if your Wonde permissions match your expectations of what data you would like to see in STEER. How to set permissions on Wonde
Additionally, because every MIS is different, there can be some cases where Wonde is sending us a different data type than you were expecting. This most commonly occurs with email address (occasionally parent email is sent depending on where it has been added in the MIS) and tutor groups (this can vary between tutor group name and tutor lead name).
Error Message: Some students are unable to sync (Missing Data)
This is almost always due to missing essential data. View your error report to see the list of students and which data they are missing. Here's what to do next:
π Check that it is present on your MIS
π Check your Wonde Permissions to make sure it switched on (this typically results in all students being unable to sync, so if that happens, this is usually why)
π¬ If its present on both of them, then reach out to us for support.
Parent emails are appearing for students
Because every MIS is different, there can be some cases where Wonde is sending us a different data than you were expecting. If this happens, then reach out to us for support.
Why has STEER paused our auto-syncing?
If you are seeing this message, then STEER has manually switched off your auto-syncing as a safety measure. In most cases, this is specific to your school. We will always inform someone at your school when we do this.
Reasons include:
π You are in the process of migrating MIS
π§ You have reported an import issue which is yet to be resolved
π§ Your Wonde connection is still being set up
In rare cases, we may temporarily pause all school's auto-syncing if we believe there may be a general issue.
We also pause auto-syncing in the weeks leading up to a new school year (to avoid importing data which isn't ready) however we show a unique message for this:

The wrong year groups are being imported
There are two explanations for this:
β Your Import Settings on STEER need to be updated.
Go to Admin --> Data Management--> Import Settings (in the Wonde auto-sync controls). Check the "Which year groups do you want to track using STEER?" page.
π Your Wonde Import Settings need to be updated.
In general, we recommend handling the imported years on STEER's interface (as shown above) but Wonde also has a facility to this called Access Control which you (or someone in your school) may have used. One very important thing to be aware of about this, is that these "Access Controls" are not maintained each year in the way you might expect! When you select exclude/include a particular year group of students, Wonde actually interprets this as referring to those students, not that year group. So, when those students move up a year, they will still be excluded/included and you will need to reset the access control. It is a pain to manage every year, which is why we built our own settings page to manage imported year groups.
