✅ Things that need to be done first:
Have a Wonde - STEER connection set up
If this is the first time you are using Wonde to import to STEER, just make sure we know about it! If you're a new school, then we will have set this up for you before you got your login. If you're an existing school using Wonde for the first time, you need to have informed us of your intention so that we can set up the connection. Note that staff imports do not need a special connection, so if you've previously imported students, then you are ready to go!
1️⃣ Getting Stared
If you are a new school, you'll see our set-up wizard as soon as you log in, simply click "Import Staff" to get started!
If you're an existing school, then you can find it on the "Data Management" page in "Admin" (at the bottom of the sidebar). It looks like this:

Choose "Wonde" when asked how you would like to import!
If that button is blocked, it means that STEER isn't aware that you school actually plans on using wonde. Let us know on Zendesk and we'll get it set up.
2️⃣ Choose if you want to import everyone, or only "teaching staff"
Most MIS providers have some category of "teaching staff" which we can use filter which staff are imported. This usually a good idea, because otherwise cleaners, kitchen staff, groundskeepers etc can all accidentally end up with an account (don't worry, they wouldn't be able to access data anyway unless you manually have them permission).
If we aren't receiving this "teaching staff" tag from Wonde, you'll see a hover message and be blocked from clicking. That usually means that you need to update you permissions for STEER on Wonde.
Note that you'll have a chance at the end to manually review and remove any staff which you don't actually want to add.
3️⃣ Start the sync
This normally takes a few minutes (10 maximum).
4️⃣ Review the imported data
Tips to review your import:
- Are there any errors? At this stage, we'll alert you to any errors that we have spotted (list of common errors). Having errors doesn't necessarily mean that you can't complete the import, we're just informing you of them, so that you can resolve them if needed.
- Do you want to remove any staff from the import? You want to only import a subsection of possible staff members. Click the "edit" button to untick anyone you would prefer to leave out.
- Do the totals of new and updated staff look accurate? You can compare them to your MIS to see if they match you expectations. Note that we'll ignore any staff who aren't being imported due to an error.
If that's all good, then you can finalise the import!
