β The short answer:
Just click here or go to Admin --> Data Management --> Import via CSV on Student Data. We'll walk you through the steps to create, upload and check your import file. It's pretty simple, but if you want more guidance, you can follow the walkthrough below.
πΊοΈ Walkthrough:
1οΈβ£ Getting Stared
If you are a new school:
You'll see our set-up wizard as soon as you log in, simply click "Import Students" to get started!
If you're an existing school:
Then you can find it on the "Data Management" on "Admin" (at the bottom of the sidebar). Or, just click here!
Choose "CSV" when asked how you would like to import!
If that button is blocked, it means that STEER isn't aware that you school actually plans on using wonde. Let us know on Zendesk and we'll get it set up.
2οΈβ£ Download our Template
Choose all the year groups that you are planning to track! We'll only import data for students in these years.
3οΈβ£ Decide Which Data to Include
Some data is mandatory and some is optional. We've listed all the available types here:
4οΈβ£ Optional step: Generating Pseudonyms
Important: β© Skip this section if your school has opted to use real names. This will have been agreed with STEER before you upload your students. If you can't see the name generator in your template, it means that your school has opted for full names.
If your school has opted to use pseudonyms rather than real names, you need to generate it using this part of the CSV:
How to generate names:
1οΈβ£ Enter First name or Initial in column B
2οΈβ£ Enter Surname in column C
3οΈβ£ Enter Middle name or Initial in column D
4οΈβ£ Copy and paste results into column F and delete columns A-E (pseudonymised name generator).
5οΈβ£ Add data to CSV
Take the data from you school MIS and populate the CSV with it.
6οΈβ£ Save your file as a CSV
This is important! It won't work if you save it as a normal Excel file.
7οΈβ£ Upload and check that all the data is mapped
This is important! It won't work if you save it as a normal Excel file.
β If we were able to map all of your data to our file, your'll see this:
β If we weren't about to map some data columns, you'll see this:
Use these "Map onto CSV buttons" to manually connect them to our data fields:
If you don't actually want to import those columns, just click next to continue the flow!
8οΈβ£ Review your Import
Tips to review your import:
- Are there any errors? At this stage, we'll alert you to any errors that we have spotted (list of common errors). Having errors doesn't necessarily mean that you can't complete the import, we're just informing you of them, so that you can resolve them if needed.
- Do the totals of new and updated students look accurate? You can compare them to your MIS to see if they match you expectations. Note that we'll ignore any students who aren't being imported due to an error.
- If you want to be extra careful or clear up a doubt, you can click "View Data". That will let you look at all the new students. This can be useful if you are worried about the wrong houses or emails being imported. However, don't be confused if the data looks a bit odd (underscores etc)- this page shows the raw data as it arrives from wonde.
If that's all good, then you can finalise the import!
